Sharing Our Mexican Heritage
Since 1969
Rooted in over five decades of tradition, our association continues to honor and celebrate the Mexican culture by bringing together people from all walks of life. Through festivals, performances, and cultural programs, we provide opportunities to experience the beauty and diversity of Mexico.
The Roots of Fiesta Mexicana. The Women Who Sparked a Movement.
In 1969, a group of Mexican women, including Mrs. Maurila Blakely Ortiz, envisioned celebrating their cultural heritage with the community. Mrs. Ortiz, a key organizer of kermés charity festivals, helped shape what is now Fiesta Mexicana. Her dedication, along with others, has preserved our heritage, allowing future generations to embrace and celebrate our culture beyond the struggles for recognition.

Support Our Mission to Celebrate Culture and Community
At the Mexican Heritage Association of West Michigan, we believe that honoring culture, celebrating tradition, and uplifting community go hand in hand. Your support empowers us to continue sharing our heritage and creating meaningful experiences that unite and inspire.

Today we attempt to emulate social change, wellness, and unity for all through learning from other cultures while sharing our Mexican Heritage.
To promote and educate the public about Mexican culture, customs, history, traditions, and the contributions of Americans with Mexican Heritage through promoting and participating in community events and services.
Fiesta Mexicana stands out as a flagship event, boasting a rich history as one of the oldest ethnic festivals in the city. For 52 years, this iconic event has brought us together at Calder Plaza for three days of vibrant music, dance, art, and delectable cuisine.
To grow the support from the youth in our community by providing engaging, and cultural activities where our youth can learn about the culture and traditions. Cultivating and sharing our heritage with all residents and visitors to the state of Michigan.
Our Purpose, Our Passion, Our People.
At the Mexican Heritage Association of West Michigan, our work is rooted in purpose and tradition. From our long-standing Fiesta Mexicana celebration to our efforts in youth engagement and cultural education, we strive to share, preserve, and grow the beauty of Mexican heritage within our community.

Join us in celebrating culture, inspiring unity, and uplifting our community through the power of volunteerism.
